Charles Edwin Wolverton (1851-1926) came by wagon train to Oregon with his family in 1853 and grew up on a homestead in Polk County. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Monmouth College in 1872 and his law degree at Kentucky University (Lexington) in 1874. Wolverton passed the Oregon bar that year and practiced for many years at Albany. He was active in Republican party politics and ran successfully for the Oregon Supreme Court in 1894, serving as Justice and Chief Justice until 1905. That ...

Jacob Vanderpool was an African American owner of a saloon, restaurant, and boarding house living in Oregon City, Clackamas County, Oregon Territory at a time when the Oregon Territoral government enforced an exclusion law it had passed in 1844 preventing blacks from living in Oregon.
